Wells Youth Baseball will be fielding select teams at the 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U levels for the 2023 season. Tryouts for select teams concluded in November.
Senior level (13U and 14U) select teams: Based on feedback from our community over the past year, Wells Youth Baseball (WYB) has decided to form what we are calling select teams to compete in baseball tournaments around the Portland region. Last season we received feedback that some families were not interested in the commitment to do tournaments and winter practice, so we hope this option will work for everyone.
What this is:
Selection: These select teams will be competitive and therefore will require an evaluation process and potentially cuts if there is more demand than positions. We anticipate approximately 12-13 players on the team to best balance playing time and allow for injuries / absences.
Cost: The estimated cost for each player on the 13u and 14u select team will be approximately $800 to $1000. This cost will include winter workouts, uniforms, tournaments, and partial paid coaching. Playing JBO will be an additional fee. This amount could vary depending on how many tournaments the team wants to play, how much additional paid coaching is needed, and how many practices the team will be having. Additional money may be necessary at some point throughout the season. If you feel cost will be prohibitive for you, please reach out to us so we can make appropriate arrangements.
Schedule: The team will do winter workouts from January to March. There will be at least one practice per week, and certain weekend practices or practice games when they can be scheduled. Once the spring baseball season starts, the goal will be to play 4 tournaments from May through July. Efforts will be made to ensure coordination with WYB JBO regular season games and practices.
